Our church (originally called Temple Baptist Church) began on December 25, 1983, as a mission of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Shirley, NY, in hopes of reaching the small communities of the Middle of Long Island with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We met in an old potato barn in Middle Island off Rocky Point Rd. from our inception. From 1996-2012 Mark Miller served as pastor of our church. In 2009, under his leadership we moved to our current Smith Rd. location in Ridge. God’s primary vehicle for taking his story (the gospel) to the world is through all of Christ’s people, the church, not just a few pastors or religious superstars. In 2013, Brooke Taylor was called as the new pastor. In 2015 we began a year of transition, first installing biblical Elders to serve as the leaders of our church and changing our name to Missio Church. Missio is Latin for “the mission” and this chnage reminds us why we exist - not primarily for ourselves, but for the sake of others - that we are to be on mission even as God is on a mission to save sinners through Jesus Christ. We take seriously our responsibility and calling to make disciples of all nations ~ to be on mission for the glory and fame of Jesus Christ.

God desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all. (1 Timothy 2:6,7)
Those that call Missio Church home have come from various backgrounds, experiences & nations. Some of us grew up in a church and some of us are the first in our family to believe the gospel. Some of us have lived seemingly good or moral lives and some of us have live some of the most wicked lives. But all of us - in God's timing - came to see our sin, our need for a savior and trust in Jesus Christ for redemption and forgiveness of sins. The beauty of the gospel is that God calls people from every tribe, tongue & nation to be part of his Kingdom - Our story has been forever altered by God's story...and His story is just beginning!
